ORCHARD PARK, NY - A likeable young man from Orchard Park who has touched so many with his spirit was the focus of a special benefit Sunday for him and his family. We also learned more about the recovery efforts of Peter Brady who was injured in a pool accident.
You could hear the blues at this special benefit, but for drummer and athlete Peter Brady, he and his uplifting family now look to move on past that terrible Memorial Day diving accident in a friend's pool which partially paralyzed him below his shoulders.
Channel 2's Dave McKinley spoke with Peter and his mother on July 21st about regaining some feeling and whether he'll move again, they both seemed hopeful.
While Mom Jane was more emotional at this well attended benefit, Peter's Dad, Jim provided an update. "He has a small amount of movement in his legs. And he has a limited amount of movement in his arms. Because both of his biceps are able to contract. So we're hoping to get him to a center of excellence after this benefit so that we can continue this therapy and get him whole again. His spirits have been high with all the friends and support of the community as you can see here today. We've been so blessed," said Jim
Peter's mom Jane said, "I am amazed at the effort and the time that everyone has put in to make this event for Peter...just to help him and to help our family. It's beyond overwhelming and we have run out of words to thank everyone."
"In the beginning it just seems so hopeless but at this point with everyone and everything that people have done for us and the support we've had eternally it's just really made a huge difference," said Peter's brother Jim.
Volunteers are also renovating the Brady's home to provide room for Peter's recovery.
