Patrick Gallivan (R) 59th State Senate seat
ELMA, N.Y. - Former Erie County Sheriff Patrick Gallivan officially announced his candidacy for the 59th State Senate District on Wednesday.
Gallivan will run as a republican for the seat currently held by Republican Dale Volker. The long-time state lawmaker is retiring at the end of his term.
Gallivan currently serves on the New York State Parole Board. He says election law will allow him to keep that position while he runs for office.
Last year, a Two On Your Side investigation found state parole board members had strong political ties, are paid $102,000 per year, use of a state car and in many cases do not work a full time schedule.
Gallivan adds his name to a list that also includes former Erie County Republican chairman James Domagalski and former East Aurora mayor David DiPietro.
Gallivan will be a guest in the Two On Your Side Red Zone at 6 p.m.
