Erie County Democrats have endorsed Frank Sedita in the race to succeed Frank Clark as District Attorney.
Sedita has worked in the D.A.'s office for nearly 20 years.
Since 2000, he's been the top homicide prosecutor in the office. Sedita has Clark's support in the race.
The move to back Sedita happened very quickly -- on Monday, Town of Tonawanda judge John Flynn was the favorite to get the endorsement.
But a source tells 2 On Your Side that Flynn was told Tuesday afternoon that the party was instead going to back Sedita.
In addition to his experience in the D.A.'s office, Sedita brings other attributes to the race.
One is name recognition, Sedita's grandfather was mayor of Buffalo, and his father is a judge.
Also, Sedita is the favorite to win the Conservative party's endorsement.
Last week, Sedita told Scott Brown it's been his professional dream to become D.A.
Sedita will not have a free ride to the Democratic nomination. He'll now face off against Ken Case in the Democratic primary.
Case is a former homicide prosecutor in the D.A.'s office who has strong support from the law enforcement community.
