BUFFALO, N.Y. - Another Baron is going to join the Canisius basketball program. Jim Baron's son Billy Baron is transferring from Rhode Island to Canisius.

Baron began his college career at Virginia but transferred to Rhode ISland where he averaged 13.0 points and 4.5 rebounds a game. Rhode Island won 20 or more games each of the previous four seasons but last year things went sour on and off the court and Jim Baron was fired. The Rams were 7-24 and didn't qualify for the Atlantic 10 tournament. Dan Hurley replaced Baron as the Rams head coach.

Baron's addition will be huge for the Griffs, a team that finished 5-25 and dead last in the MAAC under Tom Parrotta last year.

Baron will need an eligibility waivers that will allow him to play immediately. Its the second time he's transferring so it will be interesting to see how the situation is handled by the NCAA.

Canisius cannot comment on the situation. Jeff Goodman from CBSSports.com broke the story Thursday evening.
